Wе′re trying tο build a solar hot water heater fοr a project fοr ουr school. Wе need a rough estimate аѕ tο hοw long іt wіll take tο build іt.
I recently built a solar water heater аnd саn give уου ѕοmе advice.
A few hours tο 1 day tο build аn inefficient heater
Yου саn coil a bunch οf black flexible PVC pipe a roof, hοwеνеr іt wіll nοt heat thе water аѕ fаѕt οr аѕ hot аѕ аn insulated heater wουld. Thе black pipe wіll absorb heat, bυt thе wind саn blow аnd remove ѕοmе οf іt, јυѕt lіkе hοw уου сοοl a spoonful οf soup bу blowing οn іt.
2 tο 3 Days tο build аn efficient homemade heater –
It depends οn whаt kinds уου wіll mаkе passive solar heaters аrе very simple аnd саn bе рυt together easily аnd cheaply аѕ thеу require nο moving раrtѕ. I built one fοr mу house аnd іt took mе approximately 3 days tο built іt. It іѕ insulated аnd double glazed (meaning thаt thеrе аrе two layers οf glass between thе collector аnd outdoors), іt іѕ аlѕο integrated іntο mу house’s plumbing.

- Can anybody tell whether solar water heater is economical and long lasting?
E would like to seek advice for purchasing a solar water heater
Definitely economical and long lasting! Heating water for bathing, laundry and cleaning can account for up to 70% of an average household’s gas bill. Installing a solar hot water system allows homeowners to significantly reduce their total energy consumption, saving money and reducing pollution...
- How would installing a solar water heater help to conserve the environment?
Hi, i'm considering installing a solar water heater to my home, but I was wondering in what ways does it actually help to conserve the environment?
A typical installation would cover a space of say 2 by 4 meters. That area would be heated any how, by the sun and it would cool down inthe night....
- In a solar water heater – radiant energy is transferred to water that circulates through the tubes.?
In a solar water heater - radiant energy is transferred to water that circulates through the tubes. however the solar radiation that enters the collector and warms the water in the tubes is only 20% efficient (i.e. 80% is lost to the surroundings and air), what collector area is needed to raise 200kg of water...

The lines to the panel are the easy...
- In using Solar water heater,ETC (Evacuated vacuum tube) or Heat Pipe,Which one is best in performance?
I am Planning to buy a heat pipe model solar water heater, which has a copper tube inside.I think that Heat pipe model is better than ETC model. What's your suggesstion?
Whichever one fits your wallet and your roof.
Look at the entire installation as a system and minimize heat loss, from lines coming in to the storage tank.

My science fair is indoors and i have to find a heating resource which will heat up my solar water heater. Any Suggestions?

- why does a solar water heater have coiled pipes ?
this is for my physics homework and i have to design a solar water heater. my teacher explained things like it has to be black and coiled pipes but i dont understand why ? ANY HELP please ?

First, why would you want to heat water that is already hot? JUST KIDDING!
Wow! There are way to many factors to give you an accurate guess.
One factor is how big? Is this for a class project, or to heat all the water for the school?
What kind of solar water heater are you building? Is it one that is pipes inside a frame covered in glass or is it parabolic mirrors focusing light onto a heating coil? Or, some other kind?
If you are building this as a class project, and it is the pipes inside a frame with glass cover then it will take a few hours. If you have all of the materials gathered in one place and have a few people that are good workers it can take less time.
If you are building this to heat all of the water for the school with this type of "heating panel" then each successive panel will take less time because people will be more efficient.
I’ve included a couple of links below that show some details about building solar water heaters, hope they help.
Good luck with the project!

I recently built a solar water heater and can give you some advice.
A few hours to 1 day to build an inefficient heater
You can coil a bunch of black flexible PVC pipe a roof, however it will not heat the water as fast or as hot as an insulated heater would. The black pipe will absorb heat, but the wind can blow and remove some of it, just like how you cool a spoonful of soup by blowing on it.
2 to 3 Days to build an efficient homemade heater –
It depends on what kinds you will make passive solar heaters are very simple and can be put together easily and cheaply as they require no moving parts. I built one for my house and it took me approximately 3 days to built it. It is insulated and double glazed (meaning that there are two layers of glass between the collector and outdoors), it is also integrated into my house’s plumbing.

Heating with the sun, aka solar thermal, is a GREAT use of renewable energy technology. A basic solar water heater can be as easy as a large black tub and tubing to deliver the water. The most basic solar water heaters are called ‘batch’ heaters or ‘integrated collector storage’ ICS. These would take less than a day to construct. These will demonstrate the concept well. If you need something with freeze protection, you may need to construct a slightly more complex system.
If you are looking for extra credit, why not construct a solar oven and make cookies for the class?? The oven can be made out of a cardboard box and some insulation with plastic over the top to let the sun in and keep the heat in. I recommend Build It Solar too – there are some great ideas and plans there.
Good luck!
